Online Friends v.s. School Friends

What do you think of when you hear "hanging out with friends"?

Normally someone would think meeting up with some bros/girls at someones house. Even though I like to think of everyone I know at school as good friends, I don't share many of their interest. Due to this I also don't really have any interaction with anyone outside of school hours (with a couple of exceptions of course). I guess what I'm trying to get at is that my idea of "hanging out with friends" is different that most.

Last night I stayed up until 3AM playing games with four of my online friends. That night I laughed, yelled, cried a little, and had a pretty good time in general; there was never a dull moment with the crowd I was running with. Maybe this wouldn't be the way you would want to spend your weekend, but if you simply took the "online" out of my night it would be about the same as a lot of high-schooler's weekends.

Although I never bring my online friends up much at school, I feel that a lot of people would say online friends are nothing like school friends. Even if that may hold true, online friends are much easier to make because there is no limit to who you can meet! Imagine having a friend from England and the awesome conversations that you can't really have with classmates (unless their actually from there and moved here, but that's beside the point).

In the end I just want to say that you shouldn't think someone is weird because they don't seem to do much outside of school.

I was also going to input my thoughts on everyone's posts but its about midnight so I'm going to catch some shut eye. I'll leave you with a Slenderman wallpaper so you'll be the one not getting any sleep.

  1. Very interesting title here; definitely makes me want to read more! 3 AM!? How do you function the next day? And I'm kind of curious why you cried.. and yelled for that matter. This post makes sense, although I hadn't thought of it in this way before. Just remember, no one is "normal"; it's awesome how you think outside the box! Good job!

  2. Chris, I understand what you mean, I've had a lot of nights similar to that too. I've been fortunate to have a good repertoire of online friends and school friends (although I would say that my school friends always come first for me). I have learned a lot from some of my friends online about different states and even about different countries. I think it's awesome that we live in a world where we can have a friend from 1000s of miles away. I have had friends from North and South Carolina, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Alabama, New York, Florida, and England among other places. My online friends truly provide more of an escape from the normal than anything else I have ever experienced. Cheers to the modern era!
